Lush were an Englishalternative rock band, formed in 1987 and disbanded in 1996. They were one of the first bands to attract the "shoegazing" label, later moving toward Britpop.

Manu Chao is a French singer with French and Spanish (Basque/Galician) origin.

Manu Chao was a well-known member of the Parisian alternative music scene, in bands such as Hot Pants and Los Carayos. In 1987, Chao, his brother Antoine Chao and their cousin Santiago Casariego founded the band Mano Negra. Mano Negra met with success in France first with the hit single Mala Vida, then toured South America. The band split in 1995.

Gil Scott-Heron (born April 1, 1949 in Chicago) is an American poet and musician, known primarily for his late 1960s and early 1970s work as a performer, associated with African American militant activists. Heron is perhaps most well known for his poems/songs “PlayThe Revolution Will Not Be Televised” and “What’s the Word - Johannesburg” a movement hit during the 1980’s South Africa college and national divestment movement in the United States of America.

Telefon Tel Aviv is a music collective started by Josh Eustis and the late Charlie Cooper of New Orleans, Louisiana. The two originally met in high school, but did not begin working on music together until after university studies. Since 1999 Josh and Charlie had been working to cultivate their sound, based largely in electronic music, but that also showed flourishes of , vintage , , and , among other things. The group continues as a mostly solo project of Josh Eustis after Charlie Cooper’s death in January 2009.
